Hi, Just wanted some input. Starting a few years ago, whenever I'd be in a very deep sleep, I'd dream about death. Not my own, but usually someone in my family. This happens ocasionally, and it is very disturbing. Without getting too graphic, these dreams usually center around a viewing or burial. I've even relived viewings of my grandparents who have already been deceased. Usually when I wake from these dreams, I have heart palpitations, and am in a panic for a minute or two. Luckily, I don't have night terrors. It's gotten to the point where I don't like to get a really deep sleep. Problem is, I've never been able to sleep well. I can't remember the last time I had a full night's sleep. I try to have a nice relaxing time before bed. I read a chapter or two in the Bible and maybe listen to some soft music or maybe the news on the radio. Some people say that if you dream about death a lot it means that you're unhappy with some aspect of your life. Generally, I have a happy life. I have a loving albeit screwed-up family, I'm a month away from graduating college, I'm an intern and I have lots of friends. I live on my own, manage my money well; and for the most part don't feel stressed out. I just can't figure out what's causing these disturbing and sometimes, gross dreams. Last weekend, both Saturday and Sunday nights I had horribly disturbing dreams. In one of them, my mother had just recently died. Funny thing is, the sequence of events didn't really make sense. I woke up from both dreams shaken for a minute. This sucks! I shouldn't have to fear getting a really good night's sleep! I don't think I obsess over death. I may remember the anniversary of my grandparents' death, but I wouldn't say I'm really preoccupied with the subject. One of the most puzzling things is when I've relived my grandparents funerals, only not like they happened. The ones in the dream are very disturbing, not at all like the real ones. I'd say I'm a mentally balanced person. I don't get angry or upset easily, and I have ways of dealing with stress, including a good support system of friends/family. Any thoughts as to why this could be happening?
It's common for someone to dream about their dead relatives. Some would say that it's one way that they are letting you know they're still ok and thinking about you and your family. I can't say as I've dreamed of my own death. I've dreamed of others though and nothing's ever resulted out of which so I put it off to maybe some thoughts I had previously. Usually the things that you think about threw the day will show up days later in your dream. It used to be that people thought they could know about something happening before it does because they dreamed it. A sort of clairvoyance. President Lincoln dreamed that he'd be assassinated a week before it happened. The real Billy Bats dreamed that 4 or more people outside his crime family we're going to kill him so they could have his high respected rank in one of New York's well known crime families. Weeks later he was never heard from again. Some people say that he was killed in a terrible bar fight and they drove 30 miles upstate and berried him. Others say he's still missing since his body was never recovered. He told his mobster friends that he was going to be killed. He even named the people who'd kill him. However 2 of the three he named later died in prison and the one is still alive and has since been pardoned for his crimes. Tommy D Samoen the guy who couldn't take a bit of kidding from Bats in that bar that night was killed in retaliation by another mobster. Tommy had a big part in beating up Billy Bats and as his two friends were driving away with the body in the trunk, Tommy realized Billy wasn't dead and opened up the trunk and stabbed him with a kitchen knife that he had to borrow from some stranger whom he woke up by pounding on the door and explaining that he needed to borrow a knife because him and his friends ran over a deer. After he stabbed Bats several times another guy shot Billy in the head to make sure he was done for. Since Billy was never found all of this has not been verified and certainly not by any of these people. On the night Tommy was killed he was going to be made as top man for one of the families. The fact that Bats was missing and Tommy being made didn't sit well with folks. Of course now over 35 years later that's a closed book case. Russian journalist Richey Carpella had a dream one night in 1910 about the beginning of the first world war. He went on to say how long it would be before it concluded. People sometimes get their ideas from sleep paralysis. That's the body's way of preparing for sleep in which you're still half awake. Usually you feel like you're floating on air and you can see all kinds of colours. Like a rainbow or something. In this state I've thought that I was walking around my house when I was still in bed. I feel myself wanting to get some water or go to the bathroom only to realize I haven't moved a step. I realized that this process is the body's way of insuring that you won't act out your dreams. In fact sleep walking is probably caused when this process doesn't work for some reason. Others have said that in this state they get out of body experiences. I think if people you know who's died had a powerful impact in your life it's possible they'll still try to reach you during sleep. Whether they're actually talking to you or not remains a mystery. Also Sigment Floyd in the nineteen twenties said that if extra sensory perception exists then you can't dismiss the fact that those thoughts could reach you while you sleep. Mary Livingston the wife of Jack Benny and distant cousin of one of the Marks Brothers said that Jack came to her in a dream and said he was going to take her with him and that he was giving her a week to finish up some things on earth. Sure enough a week later on a winter night in 1984 she died in her sleep. She was in her late seventies and spent the remaining 20 years or so even before Jack's death, as a recluse and hardly going out to see people and her celebrity friends. Jack Benny three nights before he died told Mary he'd reach her after his death to tell her when it was time to go. Since he was dying of pancreatic cancer, noone took him seriously. So you never know. Maybe there telling things in your dreams you have yet to interpretI wouldn't say anything's the matter with you however. At least yet!
Hello, dreams are very strange and interesting things. I'm afraid I cannot give you any proper or practical advice. I am also one of those people who have vivid and clear dreams, some of them are very interesting, others not so pleasant. I really don't know if it really is the dead trying to contact us, can't answer that. I do think that it could be your subconcious trying to work through certain things. Maybe you should see a psychologist since they do work with the mind and could give you some advice on how to work with or through your dreams. All the best and good luck
There are tons of books and theories about dreams. However, after studying a little myself, I've come to the conclusion that there is no, one answer for your dreams. Dreams mean whatever is relevant to your circumstances, and sometimes, they mean nothing at all. True, some of them may be extremely frightening, but that doesn't necessarily mean you should be concerned in any way. I say, go with your instincts, because ultimately, you're the only one who will know if it can translate in to your life.
are you on any type of medication? I am about 60 and had the doctor change a blood pressure pill because of graphic nightmares that I kept having. Once the medicine was changed the dreams stopped. My nephew is about 30 and says he doesn't sleep right and has nightmares when he drinks too much alcohol. Hope your problem goes away.
Hi, some times I get dreams and theyseem so real at the time. I take medication for depression. I eember dreaming a well about some dead rlitives smeI haven't even met and this voice said to me "I am your uncle".
I at times experience what you do as well, especially when it comes with my grandparents. I was really close to them when they were alife and had spent a great part of my life with them, so I suspect this is happening to me because of it, although some of the dreams I have about them are pretty weired too. Try not to get terrified because of what you dream, it is probably a reflection of some aspect of your life. Dream books usually say that dreaming of someone dieing is a good thing and that it means they would live a long life, but they usually suggest that dreaming of someones wedding or dreaming having a dance or seing others dancing is not usually a good thing. Just try not to think about things too much, especially before you go to bed, this may help you.
Ah I can very well relate. I've had dreams of people dying. I've even had this one dream whre i was beating some woman in the head, and then when I woke up my head started hurting. (I don't hope I was doing that to myself that would be bad!)
I have also had dreams but not very frequently of people not me but others getting chocked. I've had even more disturbing dreams but I do agree with the poster who said that it is your subconscious working through things. Hope this helps you... Hugs
Wow, interesting posts guys!! Luckily, I haven't had one of these dreams in awhile. Thank God. But, I still do not sleep well at all usually, and I have to get up at about 6:30 to be at work at 7:30. What's the best tip for getting a good night's sleep?
sOME TIMES I cant sleep properly. For example the last 2 nights have been worse. Especially last night, I thouht there was sombody in my room and I went down on the flore to look for them. Then I had a night mair about I was in the watter and there was sharks or something and every time I saw them I screamed. This could be because I am reading a book about dead people, you know the ones that Patrica Cornwell rites.
Try takinga warm bath before bed because that can lower your core temperature. You'll be able to sleep easier. Showers don't have that same effect for some strange reason. a warm drink will help with that too. Soothing music is another tool that can help you sleep.
